Summer Session 2011-Update

A Note To VGA Patrons

After 17 years of operating our summer camp we will be making a change this year.  We’ve received many requests to provide a fall camp-just prior to try-outs and the hockey season.  Given this, we’ve decided to offer an extended weekend camp in September 2011. We are currently speaking with UVM and Cairns about specific dates and will post these as soon as they are finalized.  You'll be happy to know that the our school will continue to be staffed by Christian Soucy, Jeff Hill, Terry Lovelette and Brent Truchon.  In addition, we hope to have visits from men and women of area varisty programs including UVM and St. Mikes.

In closing, we’d like to thank all of you for continuing to support our camp throughout the years.  It is possible that we return to a summer schedule in future years; however, we feel that moving to the fall provides an opportunity that many of you have asked for.

Below are a few activities that you might try with your goaltenders during the 2010-11 season.  There is a "rink" on the handout.  Sketch out the activity before trying it to make sure that you understand how it works.

A Note To Our Loyal Customers- 2010 Message

The Vermont Goaltenders Academy was founded 15 years ago with a mission to provide top quality goaltending instruction to area goaltenders at an affordable price.  Since that time our price has increased $50 and three of the five initial instructors remain at the core of our instructing team.  We are proud to say that we have added many VGA alums to our staff over the years.  Becca Shaw (Middlebury College), Matt Welch (Adrian College), Travis Russell (UVM), Jake Thaler (Northeastern) and Devin Clifford (Colgate) are just a few of these.  We take pride in the fact that many of our instructors have become some of the most knowledgeable instructors in the northeast. This has happened because before becoming instructors, most of our goalie trainers apprentice as students the councilors before leading drills and activities.  Our promise to you is to give your child our full attention, push him/her to his/her limits, and most of all to help them to continue appreciate the best position in sports.  We hope to see you in July!

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- A ice hockey goalie clinic sponsored by both University of Vermont hockey teams and the Vermont Goaltenders Academy raised over $2,000 for Burlington Meals on Wheels. The free clinic, held during the holiday break, was attended by over 70 goalies with donations benefiting the Burlington non-profit agency.

All six Catamounts men's and women's hockey goalies served as the clinic's instructors and many players from both teams served as shooters. The clinic was led by Vermont men's hockey assistant coach Terry Lovelette, the director of the Vermont Goaltenders Academy, and featured former Cats and professional standout Christian Soucy '95 as well as other members of the VGA staff. The ages of the goalies at the clinic ranged from six to 50 years old with the majority from local boy's and girl's amateur hockey teams.

Peter Carmolli '87, executive director of Burlington Meals on Wheels, also was on hand at the event held at UVM's Gutterson Fieldhouse. Since 1972, Burlington Meals on Wheels has delivered over two million meals to the elderly and those with disabilities.

Free VGA Clinic To Benefit Meals on Wheels

The Vermont Goaltenders Academy has worked hard to gain the respect and support of the Vermont hockey community over the last 14 years.  During that time we've trained in excess of 500 goaltenders and built relationships with youth organizations throughout Vermont, upstate New York, and, most recently, New Hampshire.  In light of this, we'd say "thank you" and to give back to our community.

With  support from University of Vermont, Kevin Smith Sports, and the Vermont State Amateur Hockey Association,  the Vermont Goaltenders Academy, will conduct a hockey goaltenders clinic for boys and girls ages 6-adult.  This event will be held December 29th, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm,  at UVM’s Gutterson Fieldhouse (pre-register) .  There is no for admission; however, VGA is asking for a monetary donation to Meals On Wheels from participants.  Instructors and shooters will include players from the UVM men’s and women’s teams.

All participants must pre-register (it'll only take a minute)!
